Why Some Skin Types May Require Additional Touch-Ups
While microblading, nano brows, powder or combo brows are designed to be long-lasting, individual skin characteristics and immune system play a MAJOR role in how pigment is retained. Some clients may notice that their results fade faster or heal less crisply depending on their immune system or skin type.
Common Factors That Can Affect Retention:
The Role of the Immune System
Your immune system plays a critical role in how your skin heals and retains pigment after a brow procedure. Because permanent makeup involves implanting pigment into the skin, your body may recognize it as a foreign substance. In response, your immune system may begin to break down or push out the pigment during the healing process. This immune response can lead to pigment loss or fading, particularly in the weeks following the procedure. This is unpredictable, cannot be prevented, and may be a major reason for needing additional touchups.
Oily Skin: Excess oil can push pigment out during the healing process, leading to softer, more blurred results. Clients with oily skin may experience faster fading and may require more frequent touch-ups to maintain definition.
Mature or Thin Skin: Aging skin tends to be thinner and more delicate, which can affect how pigment is deposited and how well it holds over time. Results may appear lighter, and the skin may need a gentler approach and additional care.
Sensitive or Reactive Skin: This skin type may be more prone to redness, swelling, or scabbing, which can interfere with pigment healing. Additional sessions may be necessary to achieve optimal coverage.
Large Pores or Textured Skin: Clients with more textured skin may notice that pigment settles unevenly or doesn’t appear as defined, especially with hair-stroke techniques. A touch-up helps perfect the shape and saturation.
In some cases, clients may require a third session to achieve their desired results. This is completely normal and typically recommended when the skin does not fully retain pigment after the initial two sessions. Factors like skin type, lifestyle, or individual healing response may contribute to the need for an additional touch-up. Our goal is always to ensure your brows heal beautifully and look as natural or defined as you prefer.
*Price for additional touchups: $250 within 6 months after the initial 2 sessions
